Video surveillance is an ever growing market and efficient ways need to be found to capture and store only what is absolutely
necessary. A digital video surveillance system can easily be constructed from Advanced Micro Peripherals off the shelf range of
PC/104 form factor components.
The Tiny886ULP PC/104+ computer controls the system either via remote access using Ethernet or serial links or
allows local control via standard PS/2 and USB peripherals. The integrated VGA of the Tiny886ULP allows for preview of the surveillance in
real-time.
The VSP2000 from AMP is a video surveillance processor with hardware motion detection functionality.
This allows the VSP2000 to automatically switch to which of its inputs is currently detecting motion and output this to the MPEG4000
for encoding.
The MPEG4000 provides a convenient way of producing high quality but compressed store of the surveillance
footage. The MPEG4000 quality settings and framerate can be optimised for the particular subject matter completely under software control
allowing a balance to be made between surveillance levels and data storage available.
The FireSpeed2000 provides an ideal way of attaching removable storage to the system for the express
purpose of video archiving. Drives can be rotated automatically and the hot-plug ability of the FireSpeed2000 allows drives to be swapped
without having to power cycle the system.
