Remote viewing of video is useful in many industrial solutions where it is not always possible or
preferable to have direct human observation. Often in these situations cabling can also be overly intrusive
or too costly and so Wireless Networking becomes the obvious solution. Off the shelf components from
Advanced Micro Peripherals Ltd allows the construction of remote video streaming systems controlled and
accessed via a wireless link.
Controlling the system is AMP's Micro886ULP PC/104+ Computer. This computer has very low
power requirements allowing the power consumption of the system to be kept to a minimum.
The AirLAN2000 is a PC/104+ Wirless Ethernet Adapter with support for the 802.11a/b/g standards.
This wide standard coverage allows the system to integrate into existing wireless networks for both system control and stream
viewing.
The MPEG4000 encodes the connected analog video sources in real-time to the MPEG4 standard.
The bandwidth of the encoded stream can be tailored to suit the available wireless network to give best performance for a given condition.
