Introducing: AMP’s Rugged AI Inference Streaming Appliance – HydraAI-GMSL

AMP’s Hydra systems are developed to help customers to solve a particular application requirement. They are the culmination of the considerable experience AMP has in helping customers refine project specifications, advising on product selection, systems integration and application development. AMP Hydra solutions help shorten the product development cycle and allow the customer to take benefit of our experience.

The demonstration system for Embedded World 2025 is a Hydra configuration combining AMP’s JetStream AI Video platform and XStream-HD ultra-low latency dual channel HD-SDI streamer. This system demonstrates building rugged, complex, video systems with AI processing.
The combination of the JetStream and XStream-HD allows multi-channel, low latency video streaming systems to be built that use the AI engine of the JetStream to do intelligent edge processing of a wide range of video inputs.

Application Recipe

This configuration of the HydraAI detects people entering a configurable danger area and highlights these to the vehicle operator. The HydraAI-GMSL has a GMSL output for integration with existing vehicle display screens.

The JetStream does AI inference using a person detect model to determine if pedestrians are in the path of the vehicle. The person detect model is configured to detect people and faces to help in poor visibility and when people are partially obscured from view. The AI inference establishes a boundary box around each detected person which is drawn on the annotated display of the JetSteam as a yellow box. If this bounding box intersects with the configurable danger area the box colour changes to red to indicate the danger condition. The system features a Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) serializer to allow the annotated display output to be integrated with the existing vehicle display screens.

The XStream-HD provides incident recording triggered by the JetStream AI inference. The JetStream AI inference data can also be sent as metadata to the XStream-HD over GbE where it is multiplexed into the video data stream. This can be used for for later review of safety improvements and litigation evidence.
